Preview for this Week on Wall Street
May 4, 2009
Earnings season is beginning to wind down. The two big news items this week will be the release of the bank stress test results on Thursday and the employment report on Friday. We may see the first signs that the economy is stabilizing.
On Monday, Sprint Nextel (S) and Tyson Foods (TSN) report earning, plus we'll get a report on construction spending.
On Tuesday, we'll get the report on ISM non-manufacturing index. Also, Kraft Foods (KFT), CVS Caremark (CVS), Legg Mason (LM) and Duke Energy (DUK) report earnings.
On Wednesday, XTO Energy (XTO) and Agrium (AGU) post results. Also, Ben Bernanke will speak at the Chicago Fed bank structure conference.
Thursday is stress test day. The government will give the results of its test on the 19 largest banks.
On Friday morning, we'll get the employment report for April. The unemployment rate will probably go up a few notches from the 8.5% in March.
