06.01.08: Does it concern you that your major energy investments are in hurricane lane?

A hurricane has not hit Houston for decades, but the truth of the matter is that the vast majority of my oil service companies operate around the world, since the U.S. dominates oil service technology, so please do not worry about hurricane season. Ironically, if this year's hurricane season is bad, especially for the Gulf of Mexico, it will send crude oil prices soaring due to the fact that tankers will not be able to unload their crude oil. In other words, if we have a bad hurricane season, our oil-related stocks will likely soar.

By the way, as a former Houston homeowner, I can tell you that if there is eve a direct hit on Houston by a hurricane that it will be devastating, since their building codes are no where near as strong a they are in Florida, where I now have a home. I am in the process of changing many windows in my Florida home and the cost of these hurricane proof windows is outrageous (over $100,000), but obviously very necessary if we get a direct hit. The stricter Florida building codes and high insurance costs are making homes more expensive and complicating the state's real estate crisis.
