The Allstate Corporation, through its subsidiaries, engages in the personal property and casualty insurance, life insurance, and retirement and investment products business primarily in the United States. Its Allstate Protection segment sells private passenger auto and homeowner’s insurance products to individuals under the Allstate, Encompass, and Esurance names through agencies, as well as directly through call centers and the Internet. This segment also provides commercial products for small business owners; specialty products, including motorcycle, boat, renters, and condominium insurance policies; insurance and non-insurance products primarily to auto dealers; and retail and wholesale roadside assistance products, as well as insurance agency services. In addition, it participates in the involuntary or shared private passenger auto insurance business, as well as offers non-proprietary property insurance products. The company’s Allstate Financial segment provides life insurance, retirement and investment, and voluntary accident and health insurance products. These products include traditional and variable life insurance; fixed annuities, including deferred and immediate; voluntary accident and health insurance; and funding agreements backing medium-term notes. This segment markets its products through various intermediary distribution channels, including its agencies and financial specialists, independent agents, and specialized structured settlement brokers, as well as directly through call centers and the Internet. The company was founded in 1931 and is headquartered in Northbrook, Illinois.
