Braskem S.A., together with its subsidiaries, produces and sells basic petrochemicals and thermoplastic resins in Brazil and internationally. It operates through five segments: Basic Petrochemicals, Polyolefins, Vinyls, Foreign Businesses, and Chemical Distribution. The Basic Petrochemicals segment produces basic petrochemicals, such as ethylene, propylene butadiene, toluene, xylene, and benzene, as well as gasoline and liquefied petroleum gas; and supplies electric energy, steam, and compressed air to second-generation producers. The Polyolefins segment engages in the production of polyethylene and polypropylene. The Vinyls segment produces polyvinyl chloride, caustic soda, and chloride. The Foreign Businesses segment engages in the production of polyethylene in the United States and Germany; and green polyethylene in Brazil. The Chemical Distribution segment primarily engages in the distribution of solvents from oil, chemical intermediaries, specialty chemicals, and pharmaceutical products. Braskem also engages in the production, supply, and sale of utilities, such as water and industrial gases; and provides industrial services. The company, formerly known as Copene Petroquímica do Nordeste S.A., was founded in 1972 and is headquartered in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Braskem S.A. is a subsidiary of Odebrecht S.A.
