Forward Air Corporation, together with its subsidiaries, provides surface transportation and related logistics services to the North American expedited air freight market. The company operates in two segments, Forward Air, Inc. (Forward Air) and Forward Air Solutions, Inc. (FASI). The Forward Air segment provides time-definite surface transportation and related logistics services. This segment offers local pick-up and delivery and scheduled surface transportation of cargo as an alternative to air transportation. It also offers a range of logistics and other services, including full truckload brokerage, fleets, warehousing, customs brokerage, shipment consolidation, deconsolidation, and handling services. This segment markets its airport-to-airport services primarily to freight forwarders, integrated air cargo carriers, and passenger and cargo airlines. The Forward Air segment provides its transportation services, primarily through a network of terminals located at or near airports in 85 cities in the United States and Canada. The FASI segment provides pool distribution services in the mid-Atlantic, southeast, midwest, and southwest continental United States. Its pool distribution services include managing high-frequency handling and distribution of time-sensitive products to various destinations in specific geographic regions. This segment serves distributors and specialty retailers, such as mall, strip mall, and outlet-based retail chains through a network of terminals and service centers located in 19 cities. The company was founded in 1981 and is headquartered in Greeneville, Tennessee.
