Petroleum Development Corporation, an independent energy company, engages in the exploration for, development, production, and marketing of oil and natural gas. The company specializes in the purchase, aggregation, and resale of natural gas from other producers. As of December 31, 2009, it owned an interest in and operated approximately 5,000 gross wells located primarily in the Rocky Mountain Region and Appalachian Basin. It sells natural gas to other gas marketers, utilities, industrial end-users, and other wholesale gas purchasers. The company was founded in 1955 and is based in Denver, Colorado.
