Rent-A-Center, Inc., together with its subsidiaries, leases household durable goods to customers on a rent-to-own basis primarily in the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The company’s stores offer durable products, such as consumer electronics, appliances, computers, and furniture and accessories under rental purchase agreements. It also provides merchandise on an installment sales basis; and offers the rent-to-own transaction to consumers who do not qualify for financing from the traditional retailer through kiosks in retailer’s stores. The company operates retail installment sales stores under the ‘Get It Now’ and ‘Home Choice’ names; and rent-to-own stores under the ‘Rent-A-Centre’ name. As of July 23, 2012, it owned and operated approximately 3,070 stores in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and Puerto Rico; and approximately 810 RAC Acceptance kiosk locations in the United States and Puerto Rico, as well as franchised approximately 220 rent-to-own stores under the ColorTyme trade name. The company was founded in 1986 and is headquartered in Plano, Texas.
