The company’s First Cost segment operates as a buying agent for footwear under private labels for mass-market merchandisers, shoe chains, and other mid-tier retailers. Its Licensing segment licenses its Steve Madden and Steven by Steve Madden trademarks for sunglasses, eyewear, outerwear, bedding, hosiery and women’s fashion apparel, jewelry, watches, and luggage; and Betsey Johnson and Betseyville trademarks for apparel, jewelry, swimwear, eyewear, watches, fragrances, and outerwear. The company markets its products through department and specialty stores, luxury and value priced retailers, national chains, mass merchants, and catalog retailers in the United States, Canada, Mexico, and South Africa; and special distribution arrangements in Asia, Australia, Europe, India, the Middle East, South and Central America, and New Zealand. The company was founded in 1990 and is based in Long Island City, New York.
