Silver Standard Resources Inc. engages in the acquisition, exploration, development, and operation of silver-dominant resource properties principally in the Americas. It primarily explores for silver, zinc, gold, lead, and manganese deposits. The company’s principal projects include the Pirquitas Mine located in the province of Jujuy in northern Argentina; the San Luis gold-silver project located in central Peru; the Pitarrilla and San Agustin projects located in Durango State, Mexico; and the Diablillos gold-silver project located to the southwest of Salta on the altiplano of northern Argentina. As of December 31, 2011, its proven and probable silver mineral reserves were 189 million ounces. The company was formerly known as Consolidated Silver Standard Mines Limited and changed its name to Silver Standard Resources Inc. in April 1990. Silver Standard Resources Inc. was founded in 1946 and is headquartered in Vancouver, Canada.
