Q&A: Investing the Navellier Growth Way

Does growth investing work in a market downturn?

Yes, if you’re picking the crème de la crème of growth stocks. Naturally it’s tougher, just as it is for any investor.  But it can and does work. For example, I have a newsletter I write for individual investors called Blue Chip Growth —which focuses on lower risk, larger-cap Wall Street stocks. In 2000, even though the overall market was taking a beating (especially those growth managers who loaded up on tech stocks), my Blue Chip Growth Buy List ended the year in positive territory.

The difference is that my team and I constantly scan the market for stocks that are near the top of the heap in the eight key variables I mentioned earlier. As the fundamentals change, we change our investments. We don’t hold on waiting for a losing stock to come back—which is all too often the case with investors who become too emotionally attached to their stocks.
