Q&A: Today's Market

05.22.08: You mentioned that you wanted us to be fully invested by mid-May at the latest, but doesn't history tell us that the stock market is usually down during the May – Oct. period and has most of its gains during the Nov. - April period? Can't even great growth stocks be hurt by this as well? I appreciate your coming explanation. Thanks!

Typically, you want to sell in May and go away, except during Presidential election years, since the stock market historically rallies from May into the November election and then for about 100 days after a new President takes the oath in late January.  After 100 days the honeymoon is over. The stock market begins to get volatile again when the news media and Wall Street realizes that the new President really cannot fix much of anything and that many campaign promises will not materialize.
