Small-cap stocks typically get a boost at the start of each New Year. It’s called the  “January Effect,” and in the past 40 years or so, it has been the Old Faithful of seasonal market trends.

But this year, many are wary of counting on anything from the market and are questioning whether this boost will come with the change of the calendar year. While I think we will see the January Effect push small caps higher, I think we could see it come a little early this year as economic indicators show signs of hope, investors get cheery during the holiday season and everyone looks to the new decade for a fresh start and a plan to not get trapped by the market again.
