One of the most important sector analysis figures I track is "risk vs. reward." In a nutshell, my analysts and I dig through piles of data and put it all on a scale–with the good stuff on the "reward" side, and the bad stuff on the "risk" side. Then, we see which way the scale tips.

Let me be clear: A stock with a good risk vs. reward ratio is NOT always low risk.

Most stocks are pretty balanced–but I seek out the stocks that carry the potential for much higher rewards than risk. As you can see in the graph below, the profit potential is really starting to outpace the downside risk in the Consumer Staples sector.
