  • 08.26.08: Gold Medal Stocks You Simply Must Own!
Talk about a gold medal performance! In case you missed the closing ceremonies in Beijing, the Chinese ended the Olympic Games in a blaze of glory. For two weeks, not only did China impress its visitors with its hospitality and strength of cultural character, but it proved to a global audience that it truly is an economic and political power. I'm confident that China's resolve will only grow from here, and we as investors should be prepared to take advantage of the opportunities China's economic might places in front of us. There are plenty of ways to cash in on this behemoth's rise to superpower status.
  • 08.20.08: Follow-up: China-Iraq Oil Contract in the Works
Last month, I talked about the race between the U.S. and China for black gold: Crude oil. I mentioned that four Chinese oil companies—China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CEO) among them—are assessing fields in Iraq to bid against oil giants Exxon (XOM), Chevron (CVX), BP (BP), Shell (RDS.A) and Total (TOT) for exploration rights. I thought I’d give you an update on the situation as it unfolds in the Middle East.
  • 08.14.08: Eat, Drink and Be Merry!
When all else fails, turn to alcohol…
...Or chocolate or cigarettes. Consumers faced with soaring energy costs, rising food prices and mortgage debt are indulging in life's little pleasures to forget their troubles. And investors are cashing in! As the economy slips towards a recession, money is flowing into Wall Street's 'sin stocks'–companies that offer up anything from lollipops to liquor–to ease the pain of cash-strapped consumers.
  • 07.28.08: How to Profit from China's Battle for Oil
For a bunch of communists, the Chinese have turned out to be great capitalists. I'm referring, of course, to the race for black gold: Crude oil–the global currency and the new gold standard. As I mentioned recently, China's economy expanded 10.6% in the first quarter of 2008, and hovers around 8% for the year. If this growth rate persists, over the next several years it will be impossible for China to meet its internal energy needs. By 2030, the number of cars in China is projected to grow 90 times! In the U.S., transportation accounts for 70% of the 21 million barrels of oil consumed each day. If by 2030 China produces–and drives–more cars than the U.S., imagine the exponential impact a country of 1.2 billion people will have on crude oil supplies! So how can we profit from China's booming oil demand? The opportunities are endless!
